As much as I'd like to have all the gold and buy w/e I want whenever I want, I wouldn't buy gold even if it was legal. I don't think people realise that gold buyer/sellers are the ones F@!$#!ing up the in game economy.
To the OP: Go take an economy/marketing class before you come here and post stupid threads. Kthx

Nope. I play the game to have fun, not to spend money. I also agree with jrk247.

I'd sell everything on my account for as much as I could.
Then I'd go look for another game.

Pre loot scaling, I wouldn't. Now, depends on the price and avaliability.

A big fat NO from me on both questions
A I make enough just to get by in the game
B I don't make enough to sell gold.
Even if Anet made the selling/buying/exchanging of gold in the store ( to cut out bots? or whatever reason)
I wouldn't buy it from there as to me it's more fun working for what you want to achieve

Theres no way I would buy gold. Spending real money, for money in a videogame? Gimme a a break. I have better things in my life than a game. And to make a job out of it? Same answer.

No. Not only would I not buy gold, I would quit the game in an instant. Go check out one of those "free" Korean grindfest MMOs like Conquer Online if you'd like to see what official gold/item selling does to a game. It's not pretty.

I would say no on first(not alot to sell)
and yes on second for if you could buy/sell gold, All items would cost millions and millions (and thats just to look at them) inflation would skyrocket. IMO

I think it's cool for people who can only spend few hours in a week to get the stuff they want - if it would be legal. Nothing wrong with that. However since it is it's idiotic to do it and get caught/banned, it's not worth the trouble.
Working in GW is something I can never grasp, maybe it's because many here are simple students or still go to school, get fed by mom and dad and never earned real cash.

Look at Codemasters and what they did with Archlord, you can buy in game gold on its offical site! And look at how good the game is? Not very, infact it's rather crap.

I think it is and has to be illegal because the ability to make real money will lead to all kinds of unwanted behaviour a.k.a scamming, hacking, loot stealing etc etc.
Without that i would see no problem.
To the ppl who say that gold buying is stupid, consider this. (hypothetical)
If it takes me 1 day to farm 100k gold and 30 minutes of real life work to buy 100k. Why should i not buy gold so i can do stuff in game a little more fun than farming?

This next bit is not directed toward Shaq, as the statement which set it off is hypothetical:
This is the part that confuses me the most about gamers today:WHY ARE YOU DOING SOMETHING IN A GAME YOU DON'T ENJOY? If you don't have fun doing something, why are you doing it? To get pretty armor that does the same as 'ugly' armor? That's like working a job you don't like so you can afford to live in an expensive apartment which is identical to the cheaper apartment down the hall...
I'd rather work a job I enjoyed for the cheaper apartment, and save the extra money for getting a nice place one day.I apply the same philosophy to the game. For all my characters I use the basic armor for their profession, killing critters on the way to get collector armor, and squirrelling away the money for later. My first character beat the game in collector armor, and the only reason some of my other char's have non collector is because the first guy funded it.
If you want gold in the game, don't play harder, play smarter(the same adage that applies to life). If you save up those collectables that can be used for festivals, and then sell them for cheaper than everyone else you can make quite a bundle.
Please forgive the off-topic bit, there have been several threads whining about drops/'can't make enough gold' lately and its starting to get on my nerves. Too many players would rather change the game (or complain about it) than sit back and think about what they could do differently to have a bit more fun.
As for my answer: No, I wouldn't buy gold. I like the feeling of satisfaction that I get from knowing that I earned every single gold piece in my inventory. As for selling it, it wouldn't really be worth my while. I don't farm, so I have enough to make my characters comfortable and that's all I really need. All my extra gold went to my guild.
But that's just my two cents

I completely agree with Sli Ander, well said. Now, I will admit to something - I have purchased in-game currency with real money before. But, and this is important, it was not in Guild Wars but a different game - Anarchy Online. It was a few years ago, and I would say it was my first real experience with an MMO. That game was notorious for grind, and I mean huge amounts of grind. The level cap was at an enormous 220! Gear/loot was not only important, also, it's pretty much a staple.
Once I got far enough in, around level 60+, I realized how expensive items around my level were getting, and the fact that I'd have to farm in order to get basic gear. That's ridiculous. I was so addicted that I felt the only way I could enjoy it was to just buy the credits on eBay, which I did, twice. I bought around 2mil, which is probably equivalent to about 200k in GW gold. It lasted me till around level 70. Yeah, I left that game shortly after.
I pretty much vowed that I would not be playing games that relies on grind. Optional grind is fine with me, but when you feel the need to work in a game just to keep average efficiency, yeah, hell no. Guild Wars doesn't rely on grind in the least. Because of that, I see no reason why anyone would feel the need to purchase gold - at all. Vanity items are the only thing that requires high amounts of gold, but that falls into the "optional grind" category. That's fine. Why you would want to buy virtual gold for optional vanity items is way beyond me.

It's painfully easy to earn gold in GW, so no, I wouldn't buy or sell gold. That's why I'll never understand beggars or scammers when it's so easy to make it just by playing the game.
